Candidates for CCA dean position named; open forums upcoming

Three finalists have been named for the position of dean of the College of Creative Arts (CCA) at Miami University. Open forums are scheduled for each. All forums will be held in room 100 of the Art Building.

Jacob Pinholster

Nov. 9, 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Nov. 10, 9-10 a.m.

Jacob Pinholster is executive dean for enterprise design at the Arizona State University (ASU) Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and founding director of the ASU Media and Immersive Experience Center, a 118,000 square foot emerging media technologies center that he led the development of as a partnership between ASU and the city of Mesa, Arizona. In these capacities, he is a designer and facilitator of numerous local, regional, and national projects, including art-science-engineering-design collaborations, the Arizona Creative Communities Institute, project/inquiry-based learning programs, and strategic partnerships with more than 30 partner organizations.

Ryan Fisher

Ryan Fisher, professor of music education, currently serves as interim dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts and director of the Institute for Arts and Health at the University of Memphis. He previously served as the CCFA associate dean for six years after successfully coordinating the music education program in the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. Fisher is an active choral conductor and researcher. Choirs under his direction have been featured at the Arkansas Music Educators Association conference, Tennessee Music Education Association conference, and American Choral Directors Association Southern Division Conference.

Sonya Baker

Nov. 16, 4:15-5:15 p.m.
Nov. 17, 9-10 a.m.

Sonya Baker, professional singer and educator, has served as associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and professor of music at James Madison University (JMU) since 2014. Baker’s leadership in the arts include co-chairing the JMU Inclusion Task Force, two Governor-appointed terms as board member for the Kentucky Arts Council and two elected terms as Kentucky Governor for the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Baker was a member of the American Council on Education’s prestigious Fellows Program in 2012-13 with Rhodes College in Memphis serving as her host institution.
