In addition to meeting rigorous professional standards and program requirements, teacher candidates are required to pass both sections of the Praxis II exam, which serves as the professional exam for all candidates seeking licensure in the state of Ohio. Over the years, teacher candidates have done exceptionally well on this exam. Most recently, during the 2006–2007 academic year, 97 percent passed the Academic Content section of the Praxis II exam, 95 percent of the teacher candidates passed the Professional section of the Praxis II exam, and an overall institutional pass rate of 93 percent was demonstrated.

Also, during the 2007–2008 academic year, a pass rate of 99.5 percent was evidenced on the Praxis III exam. This exam is taken by Miami graduates during their first year of full-time teaching. Passing this test ensures that a first-year teacher has met the highest professional standards of practice in the field of education. According to the Ohio Department of Education, Miami University maintains the highest benchmark status rating for higher education institutions and has an accreditation approval cycle of seven years.

Miami and other colleges and universities are reporting on such passage rates and other information about their teacher education programs in compliance with the Higher Education Act (also known as Title II).
