Students design water pump for African village

The village of Guelekoro, in Mali, West Africa, will receive a much-needed water pump through the efforts of a group of Miami senior engineering majors. For their senior design project, the team designed and fabricated the water pump during this past school year. They will travel to Guelekoro just after graduation on May 10 to install the system and train villagers on how to maintain it.

Beyond UFOs: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and its Astonishing Implications for Our Future, by Jeffrey Bennett, is Miami’s Summer Reading Program book for 2008 — the 27th year of the program.

Trustees approve planning for new student center

Miami trustees on April 25 approved proceeding with planning for a Bicentennial Student Center, a new building that would fill a gap in on-campus space for social interaction – a need that students have identified in surveys and focus groups.

Mosley-Howard, Sessions honored

The Distinguished Service Award is given annually to members of the Miami University faculty or staff who have made a significant impact on the life and mission of the university. This year's recipients are Susan Mosley-Howard, associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students, and Judith Sessions, dean and university librarian.
