Theta Alpha Kappa

From the official Theta Alpha Kappa Web site:

"Founded in 1976 at Manhattan College in Riverdale (the Bronx) New York, Theta Alpha Kappa is the only national honor society serving the needs of those involved in the study of religion and/or theology at both the baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate levels of higher education. Honoring excellence in these academic fields is its primary purpose, and it currently hosts over 200 local chapters throughout the United States at institutions both large and small, public and private."

 

Theta Alpha Kappa Membership Requirements
New Member Registration Form
  • Completion of at least three semesters or more at Miami University
  • Completion of at least twelve semester credits in Comparative Religion courses
  • A minimum GPA of 3.5 (B+) in Comparative Religion courses
  • A minimum overal GPA of 3.0 (B)
  • Standing in the upper 35% of one's class
  • May be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
Dues and Opportunities

Upon admittance in Theta Alpha Kappa, you will receive an acceptance letter and will then be required to pay a one-time fee of $25 for your permanent membership* dues. This fee entitles you to:

  • Local and national recognition (with formal certification) of one's excellence in Religious Studies, with the related right to indicate this recognition on one's curriculum vitae, applications and resumes.
  • A membership certificate
  • Wear an honor cord and/or medallion with your graduation robe (if you choose to purchase these items)
  • Apply for scholarship and writing award opportunities
  • Submit papers for possible publication in the Journal of Theta Alpha Kappa
  • The right to attend and vote at the Annual Meeting of Theta Alpha Kappa, and to run for office on the Board
  • A sense of community with others who have similarly been inducted
  • the continuing opportunity to "activate" (if not already done) one's permanent membership**

 

*All induction persons are permanent members of their local chapter and the national Society regardless of activation or not

**Active membership is automatically bestowed from induction through the next full fiscal year, July 1 - June 31, but is subsequently dependent on the payment of annual individual dues ($20/year). This annual dues brings all the benefits of permanent status plus a free subscription to the Journal of Theta Alpha Kappa and the satisfaction of actively (and financially) supporting hte ongoing work of Theta Alpha Kappa
