Michael E. Dantley

Dr. Michael E. Dantley serves as Miami University's Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and is also Professor in the department of Educational Leadership in the School of Education, Health, and Society. Prior to Dr. Dantley's current position, he served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Education, Health, and Society. He teaches courses in organizational and leadership theory, ethics and leadership, the principalship, the philosophy of educational leadership, and leadership theory and change. Dr. Dantley's research focuses on leadership, spirituality and social justice. He is currently pursuing research that explores new ways to conduct qualitative research in spirituality and the link between principals' moral development and the ways these principals define and demonstrate their commitment to social justice, creating democratic citizens and students' academic achievement. Dr. Dantley's scholarship has been published in the Educational Administration Quarterly, the Journal of School Leadership, the International Journal of Leadership in Education: Theory and Practice, the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, Education and Urban Society, Urban Education and the Journal of Negro Education. He has written chapters in edited texts including the new Sage Handbook of Educational Leadership, Leadership for Social Justice: Making It Happen, Inspiring Practice: Spirituality and Educational Leadership, and in the edited volume Keeping the Promise: Essays on Leadership, Democracy, and Education.

Among his honors, Dr. Dantley received Miami University's School of Education and Allied Professions' Richard T. Delp Outstanding Faculty Award in 2003 and in March 2006 was inducted into the honor society, Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Dantley currently serves as the Immediate-Past President of the University Council for Educational Administration. He also served as the Program Chairperson for Division A of the American Educational Research Association for 2007 and is the editor of the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership. Dr. Dantley is an invited key note speaker and lecturer on many university campuses across the nation.
