Political Science

Political science is the social science that studies how we govern ourselves. Political scientists investigate issues concerning how public policies are formed, how we organize ourselves for carrying out those policies, and how people compete and cooperate in deciding who shall hold public office.

Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs

This major introduces students to the theoretical and practical aspects of international relations, comparative politics, and diplomacy. It provides students with an understanding of foreign and domestic security policies, international economic relationships, and foreign cultures.

Public Administration

Miami's program in public administration prepares students who are interested in public service careers, including work for federal, state, or local government; city management; international organizations; nonprofit institutions; government relations in private firms; consulting firms; or post-graduate education in public administration, policy analysis, or law

 

Students in the Department compete each year for several awards and prizes. In addition the Department supports various student groups including Pi Sigma Alpha, the Pre-Law Club, and Miami Association for Public Administration.

Old Main (Harrison) Hall (c.1895) home of the political science department. It is named for Benjamin Harrison, Class of 1852 and U.S. President from 1888-1892. This building was renovated in the 1950's.
