Rodney Coates, a professor of critical race and ethnic studies in the department of global and intercultural studies at Miami University, was featured on the June 18 CBS News Radio Special: America Changed Forever.

On the program, hosted by CBS New Correspondent Jeff Pegues (Miami '92), Coates breaks down the history of the America’s newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, signed into federal law by President Biden June 18. Pegues is also joined on the program by Michael Harriot of The Root-dot-com, Washington Post’s Michelle Singletary, and Mary Elliot, a curator at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Coates gave a pre-recorded teach-in lecture about Juneteenth, which is available on Miami’s YouTube channel.  

Pegues, who was Miami’s 2019 spring commencement speaker, was appointed a Miami University national trustee by Miami’s board of trustees in January 2020.
