Miami University trustees approve salary increases, budget for fiscal year 2021-22

In their first in-person meeting since February of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Miami University board of trustees approved a 2% salary improvement pool and honorariums for employees and the budget for 2021-22 fiscal year on Friday, June 25.

Miami employees who were employed on Sept. 1, 2020, through the end of their contract year are eligible for a merit-based pay increase. In recognition of their efforts during the pandemic, a one-time honorarium payment of $750 will be given to full-time employees whose base salary or annualized hourly base earnings are below $75,000. Employees whose base salary or annualized hourly base earnings are above $75,000 will receive a one-time payment equal to 1% of their full-time base salary or wage.

The board also approved Miami’s operating budget for the fiscal year of $756,047,726.

Tuition and Fees

For the Oxford campus, Miami trustees approved a 3% increase in tuition for the fall 2021 resident cohort and a 2% increase in tuition for the non-resident fall 2021 cohort and continuing students not included in the Miami Tuition promise.

Miami regional campuses were authorized a 3.8% increase in undergraduate tuition for the fall 2021 resident cohort and a 2% increase in tuition for the non-resident fall 2021 cohort and lower and upper division tuition for continuing non-resident students not included in the Miami Tuition promise. The board approved comprehensive tuition for non-resident students participating in the fully on-line programs.

Under Miami’s Tuition Promise, undergraduate costs including tuition, room, board and fees are set at the time a student enters Miami and frozen for the student’s entire four years as an undergraduate.

The board also approved a 2% increase in tuition for graduate programs. However, to meet state economic development and educational attainment goals, retain talent in the state of Ohio, and to increase graduate enrollment, tuition in programs with specific graduate comprehensive tuition rates will include a waiver of the out-of-state surcharge for non-resident students. Miami trustees adopted the standard graduate tuition for Ohio residents and combined tuition and out-of-state surcharge for non-resident graduate students at all campuses. The trustees approved a program-specific comprehensive tuition for the graduate certificates and degrees that have unique costs and market conditions.

Trustees also:

  • Accepted the Committee for Naming Campus Facilities recommendation for the Dr. Paulette Worcester Office of the Chair, Department of Nursing in the newly renovated University Hall located on the Hamilton campus.
  • Approved professor emeritus/emerita and administrator emerita status for several retiring employees.
  • Approved tenure appointments for several faculty members.

Editor's Note: A previous version incorrectly had the wrong year for the fall non-resident cohorts on the Oxford and Regionals campuses. The correct year is fall 2021.
