The Marcum History

The Marcum was constructed in 1982 on the former site of the Oxford Female College, which later become Fisher Hall. Today The Marcum continues to stand as a symbol of growth, adaptation, and sustained excellence in the heart of Miami University's campus.

Before The Marcum existed, the building was originally the Oxford Female College. The building was later used as a sanitarium and was then purchased by Miami University in 1925. It then became Fisher Hall and served as a first-year men’s residence hall from 1926-1941. The Marcum also became a Naval training school from 1941-1944 and then once again a men’s residence hall until 1958. Residence to the infamous Miami student Ronald Tammen (1953). The Marcum Hotel and Conference Center, one of the most prestigious establishments in Oxford, Ohio, boasts a rich history and an illustrious past. The foundation of the Marcum Hotel and Conference Center was built in September of 1982, as an integral part of Miami University. Named in the memory of Joseph T. Marcum, a Miami alumnus, the center was constructed as a state-of-the-art meeting and lodging facility.
