"When undergraduates near the end of their college years, NSSE data show, they benefit from opportunities to integrate, synthesize, and apply knowledge. In this regard, Miami stands out, particularly as a large public university." (USA TODAY)

The Miami Experience is more than just textbooks and lectures. Our students are actively involved in learning through enriching experiences and supportive networks outside as well as inside the classroom.

Seeking to gauge the quality of an undergraduate education, the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) surveys first-year and senior students from colleges and universities nationwide to determine the extent to which students are actively involved with their studies, professors, and campus community.

Comparing scores from the 2007 survey in which 610 four-year schools participated, Miami respondents ranked their academic experiences higher than students in regional and national peer universities.

This says a lot about the quality of our education. According to NSSE data collected since 2000, the time and energy students devote to educationally purposeful activities is the single best predictor of their learning and personal development.
